Can't my SIM be copied, put in another phone and be used to monitor my phone calls?

If my addressbook and number are cloned then wouldn't that mean that the cloned SIM in the stolen phone would ring too? And wouldn't they be able to see who has been calling me?

yes. But only by the service provider. Outside the provider, you're safe. But don't worry about being peeped by the service provider, the workers there wouldn't dare or care to peep into your personal life, and make them definitely lose their job and even risk themself into jail.

and a cellphone service provider wouldn't also try to peep on you unless there is serious problem, like the police asked them to peep on a cell number that is suspected to be used by a terorist. Any lower than that, your conversation is safe.

Virtually impossible.
If you are in a GSM network, the calls are encrypted in about 64 bit code, and that code is randomly generated on the fly. So someone outside cannot monitor your calls. (A third party other than your connection provider.)

If you are in a CDMA network, thats even more hard. The codes must be known as well as the encryption key.

So don't worry, if the peeper is not inside the phone service provider, you are completely safe.

I really do know but it really seems possible, don't you think. A "Big Brother" kind of thing!
