Writters do not get paid by Year, but by volume. If you are a writer you may make only a little your first time out. If you become popular you can make more. Most depends on the contract you sign with the publishing house.

Most authors get 10 percent of the retail price of the book. Depending on sales this can be a fortune or a pittance. If a writer gets fifty cents per book and then sells two million copies, he's rich!
Course, if he only sells two, well, I suppose he's got a buck.
Top authors get a bigger percentage but not much bigger.

Most authors don't make money on their books. 89% of fiction books published in the US sell less than 1000 copies. That's about $700 to the author.
Dan Brown made millions.

Depends on how many books they write, and how many they sell. Top writers like Stephen King make millions, but there are many who don't make much money.

Most work on commission, a percentage of the profit from sales. something like only 2%. its not much for the work they put into it and the bad reviews they get, and the boring book signings with fat ugly people hitting on them because they are famous.
