There are many schools of thought in psychology, all had their place in (psychological) history:
(in chronological order from oldest to most recent according to my history of modern psych text book (2006)
1) structuralism
2) functionalism
3) applied psychology
4) behaviorism
5) gestalt psych
6) psychoanalysis
7) cognitive psych
