George Gershwin - he wrote popular songs like "Swanee", Broadway musicals, concertos and other classical music pieces, Rhapsody in Blue and the opera Porgy and Bess which was controversial for his day.
His music is still being played today. Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra among others have sung his works.
