Stupid is a harsh word.

Metric is easier to compute.
The country was really pushing the metric system in the late '70's.
All the radio stations were giving the temperature in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. It just never caught on.

I understand Spanish is easier to learn than English ...what do thank about changin' that? If it's easier ... wouldn't it be STUPID not to?

We aren't stupid. Even though metric is easier when it comes to science and math, and you use metric when doing science. I guess we just want to be different when it comes to this. Think about it, everyone in the world uses metric but us.

But it is stupid, we could go with the easier solution for once....

They aren't too stupid, the government decided it was too expensive to make the change. I once heard that it would cost more to change the US over to metric than to change the rest of the world to the English system (which the English no longer use...) It's a very American bit of logic, don't you think?

We're not too stupid...believe me, me and a lot of other people wish we would convert to metric. The US is too set in its ways to go back.
The reason we don't use it is because we originally hated everything European, especially everything British. We run our racetracks counterclockwise, while Europe runs them clockwise. We drive on the right, while Britain drives on the left. Just one example of us pig headed Americans doing something stupid so we can say we did it first.

well the way you word your question is stupid. I worked as an inspector in a machining industry for years and we used both. I converted dimensions constantly...could do it in my sleep. All of us could readily use both. Sometimes it's easier to "think" in sae though..so what?

And just where might you be from Venkat?
