i mean if the fuel is petrol or sth isnt it a waste of petrol with all these talks about the oil resources getting depleted and a time that will soon come after 50-60 years when there will b no petrol?

The fuel used in Formula 1 is now very similar to the one we put in the tanks of our family cars. This was made possible by strict regulations on fuel imposed by the FIA.
For example, Ferrari uses fuel that is very similar to the one that people use to fill their cars from Shell gas stations. Williams has fuel probably similar to the one in the Petrobras network, and Renault probably uses similar fuel to Elf gas stations.

I believe it is alcohol-based, and as for the wasteful part, no it is not. Think of the extra revenue that is brought into the cities running the races and the racing track itself, supplying many people with jobs, both temporary and permanent. A little fuel that is used is not emough to cause the high prices on fuel... that is yet another entirely diifferent queastion in itself.
