Short answer to a hard question to answer:

The kingdom of Israel is the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people. However, this was approximately 1200 BCE, and since that time many other nations have laid claim to the land, effectively expelling the Jewish people from the territory, scattering them among the ancient lands. Although the Jews attempted to return to Israel often, they were usually met with hostility. Over time, and until the last few centuries, Muslims were the primary inhabitants of the this region, forming the nation that would eventually be known as Palestine, though it was ruled by the Ottoman Empire until the early 20th century.

When the British occupied the land after World War I, they encourages a movement that had been gaining popularity in Europe - the resettlement of the Jewish people in their ancient homeland. Although these mass migrations happened in waves, it caused tensions between the Jewish and Arab peoples who occupied this nation, not only due to religious and cultural differences, but to claims of land ownership. The Jewish people had not controlled land in this region for thousands of years, but were given land that had once been controlled by Arab people. Being forcably displaced from their homeland, the fighting between the Jews and Arabs escalated.

During World War II and the rise of Nazism, the Jewish people were driven from Europe or slaughtered by the millions. After the fall of Germany, ending the war in Europe, many thousands of displaced Jewish people found themselves without a home. Thus is was decided to place them into Palestine. Hostilities between Jewish and Arab peoples in the country increased, eventually leading to the withdrawl of Great Britain from the region.

In 1947, Israel was carved out of Palestine, and given its own sovereign status. This erupted in war in region, as many Arab nations refuse to recognize the country of Israel, created, rather arbitrarily, by world powers, effectively isolating the Palestinian (Arab) occupation that had existed for over a millenia. A series of miliary conflicts and occupations of land resulted in the current tensions we hear about today.

I am a Muslim. I am not going to reinvent the wheel here. I think the answers here are pretty good. However, I did want to add that many of the European Jews actually converted to Judiasm in the 1800's and are not Jewish descendants at all. Even more strange enough thousands of Jews are atheist- so if it Israel was made based on religion- woaah! Another funny thing is that the only claim the Jews have to Israel is the Bible- the claim in the Bible that God gave them the land. I have two problems with this- 1) I wouldn't be surprised if half of Jews are atheist 2) the "civilized" world is going towards Darwinism- well uh duh- that would mean that the Bible is just a fake. So you are telling me that you moved millions of people into an inhabited land based on false claims? Furthermore- who is to say that all the milions who left impoverished conditions looking for wealth- we're really Jews to begin with.

Fast forward- if Jews were really being persecuted because of their religion 1) they are safe living under Muslim rule- they still are 2) Hey- why not give them a pc. of America? Has anyone ever driven through America and seen how much waste land there is? This country is huge. There is something fishy here. Why wasn't a homeland made in America instead of the Rhode Island sized Palestine? I am all for a self goverened Israel in America- but not on someone elses property. I think that if there is a true and geniune concern for the well being of Jews that they should receive a homeland right here in the US- besides- this is where more than half the Jewish population lives.

It's not religion.

The Hebrews expelled the Canaanites
The Assyrians expelled the Jews
The Babalonians expelled more Jews
The Jews expelles the Babylonians
The Famines expelled the Jews, who unwisely moved to Egypt
The Jews expelled the Palestinians, who filled the people vacuum
The Romans expelled the Jews
The Arabs expelled the Romans
The Crusaders expelled the Arabs
The Mameluks expelled the Crusaders
The Turks expelled the Mameluks
The Brits expelled the Turks
The Brits ceded the Holy Land tot he Jews
The Arabs are trying to expell the Jews.

And now everyone hates each other. As soon as Israel was formed, ever Arab nation attacked it, and the Westerners defended Israel. Then Israel gradually repelled Arab aggression throughout the century and gradually gained territory. That frightened the A-rabs even more because they viewed Israel as an expanding state trying to take over Arabia. This has led to the doctrine of Pan-Arabism, or the idea that the Arabian countries must all unite and cooperate because they were all Muslim and Arabian. They also declared Israel's right to exist null and void, thought Egypt had allowed Israel to exist when they ceded the Sinai pnninsula back to Egypt. Then the Radicals assassinated the leader of Egypt. Now, it's mainly radical vs. radical.

k first of all the country israel exists for over 2000 years...the only thing is that the israeli people moved a lot i mean they were slaves in Egypt and when they said they had enough ****, they returned to the motherland...which is the actual place of Israel country)..though there was a slight problem the land was inhabited by palestinians...at that time there was no conflict acutally Jesus was a palestinian not israeli. Later when the muslim came they converted the palestinaian to muslim religion and transformed the great temple of solomon in to a mosque...it is not that nice when peaple come to your country and change things...so since then they fight each other...and the thing with WW2...there was this ideology of HItler with the pure race but he didn't kill only jews..he killed also a lot of gypsys and other "unpure" peaople... but the thing with the jews was gennerally because they had a lot of money ...and money spin the world..and the war;)...so the thing is after the ww2 israeli people return to the mother land and did not invade palestina...they were just a very large comunity of palestinians living in the same land with the israelis

The palistinians are arabs - once under an Eygyptian ruler
One fact not mentioned, is that the Jews purchased a lot of the land before it was "given" to them - they did not kick out the palistinians, they invited them to remain, but the palistian leaders urged "their people" to leave - which they did - and since then, the palistinians have been repressed by their own people, not allowed to assimilate into any other arab country - and in fact, were "assimilating" into Isreal and treated better there than by "their leaders" - leaders, by the way, who grew extremely wealthy from the generousity of other nations, including the US, but did not share with those for whom the aid and money was meant. The their media repeats lie after lie to them, (as does our media) so that the palistians don't even know what the truth is - Isreal is not even on their maps............. who is breeding the hatred? why have their 'fellow arabs' never let these poor people migrate? look at what they destroyed when they moved into the gaza - they destroyed green houses that provided food, etc.
when life is so miserable, no wonder people are willing to strap themselfs with bombs..............

Israel didn't exist until the UN said it existed in the late 40's. They wanted to create a Jewish homeland in the middle of the Jewish holyland. Unfortunately, the country of Palestine already existed there, and the Arab world saw it as basically another crusade to rid the Muslims of their holyland. So once the Islamic Palestinians were kicked out the country by the Jewish Israelis and their Christian US backers, the rest of the Arab world swore to destroy Israel. And that's really never gone away, hence the hatred.

What is happening in the Middle East has been going on since the beginning of time I think and will no doubt continue until the end of time. Two parties want what the other party has. In this case, it's the land for expansion purposes. History leads us to believe this fight over land has been the cause of most conflicts.

after the second world war and the holocaust it was decided that the jews need a country of their own. palestine was naturally selected, because that was where the old people of israel lived. unfortunatly palestine was already inhabited, by the palestines. obviously no-one except them cared about that because the state of israel was created under the protection of the united states, great britain and other strong countries of the time. anyone who was of jewish religion, no matter what origin, automatically received citizenship. it was rapidly populated.

as i mentioned, unfortunatly, the palestines were already there. they obviously didn't like what was going on, the israelis didn't want to leave, the palestines didn't want them to stay... and now you've got war.

The the Arab world was mad and went to invade Israel but we sent the jews top notch planes and tanks and Israel took over the middle east. The rest of the middle east has been mad ever since.

Blah-blah-blah-blah.
Go to the library and get an accurate history book that tells the
saga of both Jews and Palestinians. This fight has been going on since Jesus walked the earth. 'Bout time they stop fighting
and help their own kind. What is really dangerous is that one day
we may be picking sides against the Arabs. Not a good thing.
