I have, and I have found so many individuals there to have made a lot of happiness for themselves, and I have found them to be so very resourceful. Actually, it's been attractive.

Not really. It actually increased my apathy and hastened me buying my airticket back to America. Now I just "cut-out" literally and metaphorically, those countries that suck on my world map. That way I don't have to think about it. Survival of the fittest right? If they can't get their **** together then why should I bother. I hate when people blame capitalism and all that-that's a cop-out. People in their countries can do grassroot level activities to improve their conditions but don't. And if they wanted to they should die trying just like my forefathers did. The question should be whether it disgusted you or not? Good Luck! Delusions are the silly man's best friend.

I am currently living in Thailand. There is a lot of poverty here, but I've never heard of anyone starving, and you never see anyone scavenging out of a garbage can to find food. Thai culture would never allow that. However, you can see a lot of disabled people begging for money on the streets of Bangkok. Thailand does not have a public welfare program, there's slums, but no low income housing projects owned and operated by the government. It is customary here for children to support their families, especially the parents when they're no longer able to work.

I grew up rather poor myself, and resourcefulness is a matter of survival when there is no other options. Being poor does have some advantages though. For example, if you've never had something, you'll never miss it if it's no longer available and you won't have to worry about how you're going to get along without it. Another advantage, if you don't have anything, you don't have to worry about somebody trying to steal it or cheat you out of it. So, you see being poor frees your mind to enjoy what nature and opportunity provides. Poor people seldom ever wind up in a mental institution because they get stressed out and they're usually a lot more willing to help you than you are to help them.

I have visited egypt india and pakistan and yes the people seem to make the most of what they have rather than grimble about what they have not. I think in many ways the west as lost trak of reality. we are lead to beleave we are entitaled to things rather than need to earn them. I would recomend travel to any one with the opertunity but not just the holiday resorts it can be hard to see the truth behind the glitze

I have learned alot from my travel, especially in third world countries.. the people seem kinder and more giving/sharing.. there are different sets of values and for the most part, people are friendlier and happier.. I now live full time in Thailand and love being here, it is wonderful...

How could it not enlighten you? People have ways of finding happiness without having all kinds of things. They have imaginations and the knowledge that you don't have to have the latest gadget to be at peace with yourself.

Ive been to two third world countries as a soldier...and it just disgusted me that those ruling governments let their people starve and live in squalor......it just made me so very angry at what I witnessed.

I am living in one of those third countries you've mentioned. I'm never ashamed of it. We are created in the image of God, so that makes us all beautiful. I'm glad your visit enlightened you.
