Not because it was the last book you read, but because it smacked your consciousness in a manner you did not anticipate.. etc.

When I saw the movie White Oleander, I loved it. So I decided to read the book (by Janet Fitch), not only was I inspired artistically, but also it challenged a lot of the things I have believed and understood about the world. (And being only 16 when I read it I was still figuring out everything for myself as well) Because of that, it is my favorite book. In fact, I have read the book four times since I first read it.

My second favorite book would have to be The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. That book also caused me to look at things differently and books that challenge me always bring me back around again to read it again.

Now right now, I am reading Catch-22 by Joseph Heller, and I am already beginning to think that I will come back and read it again because of it's mix of humor and war in a single book.

Any books you recommend?

Where do you start ?

Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" still blows my mind... just as it did 20+ years ago when I first read it.

Rachel Carson's "Silent Spring" just about started the environmental movement in 1963, and is certainly one of the most influential books in English of the last 100 years, plus it's a great read. Brilliant.

Roald Dahl's "BFG" - or almost anything else of his ! Genius.

But if I could choose any book and claim it as my own, it would be "The Old Man and the Sea"... Not a word out of place. So simple, but with breath-taking power and depth.

I needed to have the next book and the next because i wasn't going to leave this UN resolved in my mind.........although there was no justice for the mother in my opinion.........I saw his point of view in this. Read This book if you ever get a chance it will change who you are inside.

Hmm... so many to choose from... most recently a good book I've read is "Odd Thomas" by Dean Koontz... I almost couldn't put it down, and the author uses beautiful imagery that just grabs the imagination in a headlock and doesn't let go. If you havne't read it, you should.
