I think that many advertisments are brainwashing techniques and not very helpful at all... while others are offering an excellent product in an informative manner which can be great.

p.s. my name was Fatimah A. before I got married and became Fatimah P. neat!

Overall, harmful. When people need something, they will go out and find it. Advertising makes people imagine that what they have and/or are is not good enough, and that they need to give someone money to fix their problem. This creates a lot of insecurity, psychological problems, and ultimately suffering for the consumer. It also takes people's attention away from thinking about things which would truly advance them or the world, and wastes their energy concentrating on imaginary weaknesses that they have to fix which serves only to stuff some cunning people's pockets (the advertising merchants).

I wouldn't say that they are harmful; many are annoying though!
There are many things that I see that look interesting. There are a few depending on who their target audience is, that are stupid or even borderline offensive.
Your question reminded of an interesting story, apparently there was a very revealing billboard for an adult store that was making people run off the road.... sounds harmful haha :)

Depends on what is your viewpoint. I would say it is helpful as it gives you an idea what is available in the market and the functions and uses of the product. On the other hand, it is harmful as it makes you buy something that sometimes you don't really need.
