Most of what you find on the WEB will lead to a pay site. The trick is to learn where they are checking. What you can access may vary from state to state, county to county. Some give free access to certain records, some don't. Some require you have a legitimate reason, like an employer or bonding co. These other sites charge because they have already done this leg work. In some cases they have to pay to get the information.

But do your homework before using one. Many simply aren't worth the money. Equifax is very well known for credit reports.

Spend lots of time finding a lawyer who do this "Pro Bono" (for free). Some are sympathetic to your cause. Just never give up.

Try http://www.pretrieve.com/ - it searches a lot of the public access records for you at once.

My dad used to have friends who were police officers..But other then tryin to go to a FBI site *L* i dunno
