How do you keep plastic pants from getting hard?
What is the best way to keep them soft?
Handwashing?

Rinse them off after a wet diaper and air dry. When they actually get dirty, I would throw them in the washing machine; it is more likely to get them thoroughly clean. But they're so inexpensive, it's probably easier to replace them as necessary than to worry about keeping them soft...

If you're opposed to that because of how wasteful it is, then I would suggest buying either nylon (relatively cheap and last much longer than plastic) or wool (natural fiber, so better for baby, but *very* expensive).

sorry but you can't stop it. the better ones ( more expensive) will last a bit longer but none of them will last. Get with pampers or something like like that. They are veyr good and really help prevent diaper rash and they don't leak. my little one has excema and there is a cream we use to keep the diapers from irritating her skin other wise they are wonderful.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM - 3 OF MY 4 KIDS HAD TO WEAR CLOTH DIAPERS. TRY AIR DRYING THEM INSTEAD OF PASSING THEM IN THE DRYER.
