"The Machinist" is really good, but it's pretty hard to understand if you don't know the books it references. I heard he lived on a can of tuna a day for a year or something to get to the weight he was in that movie.

Equilibrium. Good movie even though it did not do well in the theatres.
People were comparing it to the Matrix, which is a mistake because they are totally different in both story and content.
In Equilibrium the survivors of World War III decide to prevent another war by suppressing all emotions. Kinda like Vulcans. So they all live in this perfect world without any feelings. Any emotions such as hate, love, joy, sadness are gone, and anyone possessing art, music, thinking for themselves are criminals.

The Machinist is a good psychological movie. You'll be pretty disturbed at how skinny he is in that movie and it's not FX either. He actually lost all the weight for the role and then put it back on for Batman....

Yes, I would recommend "Velvet Goldmine". It is such a departure from his character in American Psycho. I love his character in that film, he plays a reporter named Arthur Stuart and through the movie's flashbacks we see him as a young teen. He looks so much younger, it amazes me. That is probably my favorite Christian Bale film, but you could try IMDB for more!

Rent "The Machinist". It's a brilliantly creepy movie, one of my favorites. Bale lost 1/3 of his body weight for the role and his appearance is truly unsettling.

He's pretty great in the remake of "Shaft" with Samuel L. Jackson. Also, "Velvet Goldmine" is good, and he's in that too.

try The Machinist - it is a little slow, but you won't believe the amount of weight he lost to play this part - he is skeletal

He was just a kid (17, 18?), but he was great in "Newsies". I love that movie.
