I've got a 12 year old son and he loves London. A good place to go is the Tower of London. If you're not scared of heights you could take him on the London Eye. He'll be able to see loads of places including Buckingham Palace and the new Wembley stadium. It's great! Or jump on a sightseeing bus, you can jump on & off where you want and you get to see loads of places and get commentary.

Ooooh, I live near Bromley! (not much going on there though apart from the Glades shopping centre and Churchill Gardens!)

I think there's a hop farm in Kent (someone I know took their grand kids there, supposed to be pretty cool) and also 'Digger Land' (I think kids like this too)

You could always go to Greenwich Park, it's nice there in the summer ...

Central London obviously but it's a bit of a rip off ... Maybe the Natural History Museum, etc ...?

Sorry, I don't have kids and I don't know what really amuses them but I've tried!

the museum of childhood is closed for refurbishment at the moment, but it might be worth putting yourself on the mailing list for when it re-opens. both my daughters loved it.

i wouldn't take a young child to the london dungeon - the number of exhibits suitable for an under-fourteen is very small (at least, it was six years ago) and there is nothing else around london bridge that would capture a very young imagination.

my elder daughter loved the british museum by the time she was six, but my younger preferred feeding the ducks in st. james' park.

some things depend on the child.

would your boy be the sort to enjoy the imperial war museum?

That story really made me rage. Those poor boys will have that with them the rest of their lives. They've been through a lot recently being called rapists and what not, all for a packet of sweets? For gods sake. They should definately get an apology and the girl should get a very stern talking to, that lies like that can get you into a lot of trouble. I agree when you say we always get made out to be the bad ones, this case shows that it's not always true

Find out Quasar venues or laserquest.

Ie big maze laser guns get the general idea?

London Dungeon (8 year old boys love grose stuff), Get him an airzooka to play with... used like a bow, shaped like a bucket, fires a ball of air 30 m with pinpoit accuracey if you use it right... Used to sell shed loads to 8 year olds.

Teach him to skateboard,

Hire rollerblades and go to Hyde park

Natural History Museum, fast train from Bromley South to Victoria, then the district/circle line to South Kensington on the tube and then follow the directions. It is free and fun. Thats one suggestion, Enjoy.

The Natural History Museum and the Science Museum, both in Exhibition Road, then a trip on the London Eye..that's what I did with my daughter and she loved it all. Enjoy your trip!

There's a Legoland near Windsor. Kent has some beautiful castles and parks. Leeds Castle is in Kent and is a nice one to wander around and discover.
