Although you come with nothing and die with nothing, but for living which is the biggest part of your life you require something. That something is materialism and you need it, and when you need it, it should be the best and there is no 'best', you can only have better ones because when you own the best a better one comes up next day.
remember Birth and Death are given to you without your permission, The life in between is your choice, you can make it comfortable for yourself or you can make it worse, it is in your hands. Therefore people try to bring the best for themselves, hence the obsession for the best.
you are not possesing the material benefits thinking about its use after your death or before your birth, you are needing it when you live or when you are alive. it is quite natural to be materialistic, but if that is the only purpose of life then it becomes bad because you see everything- relationships and love in terms of money and material.
have a balance in life and you will be happy!

Of course we come with nothing and go with nothing but life is what lies in between that. And life and being alive is what we are all about. We are living in the 21st century and IT IS a material world. What and how much one needs is a relative issue . Too little or too much,both causes unhappiness. But we do need material possesions.

I've been down sizing a lot and throwing lots of stuff away. The materials I buy must service my goals and priorities, or I throw them away without regrets.

you want to get nice things on your own,and make your surruondings more comfortable by your own means,right?after all,you also came into this world totallly helpless,having to rely on your parents for everything,do you want to go out that way?maybe I miss the point here.
