Going to briefs? Whatever you want to do. Just tell her that you want to wear briefs now. Unless she has a strong belief otherwise, then there should not be a problem.

As long as you plan on wearing them under your pants it really should not be a big deal.

the big deal about wearing them is that your sperm may not be strong enough to get a women pregnant.
she don't need to know.
but if you're planning on having kids, stick to boxers.
