I am writing a book and am deserted for names. I would like it to be sort of formal and long, but not like supercallafragalisticexpialadocious long. Something like Alexander but not. I dont know if this is making much sense.
Also, if you have a name but it isnt long or formal, please post it anyway. It's two points and you help me.

If I may offer some advice, don't choose a name that relates to the devil. Death may be frightening but it's not evil, it's natural. You say the character is an "Angel of Death" right? That means he works for God. Or a god, whatever you have in your story. He just happens to be in the business of collecting souls and bringing them to the other side. It's not his fault people are afraid of taking the trip.
If you approach the character from this angle you will add an interesting aspect to him. Something that will make your readers remember him. Anyway, here are my suggestions

Fantassin - It sounds like a cross between fantasy and assassin but it means foot soldier in French.

Portius or Porttian - Kinda like portal, because death is only a doorway.

That first answer "Dante" was really good because most people think of "Dante's Inferno," an epic poem about the author's trip through Hell. But that was only the first one, the second was about Purgatory and the third, Heaven. It's a whole trilogy about the afterlife. I hope this helps. Good luck.

shinigami.

from wikipedia:

Shinigami (死神 lit. "death god" in Japanese. see also kami) is a term originally used for translating personifications of death, such as Death and the Grim Reaper, but later evolved into unique fantastic characters in original Japanese works of fiction, such as manga. The term "shinigami" may also be used more loosely to refer to any god associated with death. Although death deities have existed in Shintoism, they are usually not referred to as shinigami.

Gibreel forn The Satanic Verses of Rushdie sounds appealing to me. Shya (pronounced sheee-yaah) is another one I can think of right now.
