My best friend and I have started making jewelry that we think a lot of people would love. How do we get our stuff in stores? Where do we go to get help for funding? Do we need a permit of some kind? HELP!? We REALLY want to do this correctly and successfully and have fun at the same time. We are both graduating from college this year and would like to have some fun before we have to get real jobs! Thanks!

The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.
I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.
Associations may be a good avenue to explore as well. These organizations will address many of the thoughts, questions and concerns you'll inevitably have as well as many you haven't anticipated yet. See the source box for some relevant links.
Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can about the industry. Here are some book titles that are relevant:
* Jewelry Making for Fun & Profit: Make Money Doing What You Love! by Lynda Musante, Maria Nerius
* How to Really Start Your Own Business, Fourth Edition by David E. Gumpert
* How to Really Create a Successful Business Plan: Step-by-Step Guide by David E. Gumpert
* What No One Ever Tells You about Starting Your Own Business: Real-Life Start-Up Advice from 101 Successful Entrepreneurs (What No One Ever Tells You About Starting Your Own Business) by Jan Norman
* Business Start-Up Kit by Steven D. Strauss
* Start Your Own Business (Entrepreneur Magazine's Start Up) by Rieva Lesonsky
There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.
Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

well, to start making money try eBay first. to get it in a store you need to convince the manager of the store that your product is good enough to move another product over to give yours space. If you are going to have a company like an LLC, you can register it on the Internet for very cheap, like a dollar. if you really get started and have enough to take it to a craft show, or an art show go there. There are also festivals that might be able to give you a booth especially during the summer. my college has an annual spring fling that had booths that sold jewelry. You will think of something. you might be able to start out with table outside a grocery/department store(ask the manager). if you make a website, give the people web address on a card or slip of paper to take it home. if you get going again you could also rent one of those booths in the hallways of a mall. you will lots of exposure there.
hope this helps. good luck!

well to start yes you do need a permit and you should buy a piece of land (big or small depends on how big you want the store to be) and you should look into some like business places who are supposed to help you with these kind of things and you need to get insurance! maybe you could ask an adult/parent that has more experience! good luck! (this is coming from a 12 year old but i got straight A's so i am smart!)

The best thing do do is "find a need and fill it"
Be passionate about what you are doing.
Expect to start very small ... and make no profit for sure for one year ... probably two ... possibly three. So you must have other means of supporting yourself.
If you need capital (money) to start your business, you must create a business plan to show potential lenders how they can expect to get their money back ...
AND THEN ... WORK HARDER THAN YOU HAVE EVER WORKED BEFORE IN YOUR LIFE ... BE LUCKY!
