It's in Genesis. Eve was not from his heel to be stepped on or from his head to rule over him, but from his side to be equal to him.

Because Adam didn't like the first wife God gave him which was Lilith.

The ancient apocryphal (not sure of the correct spelling) texts indicate that God created man and woman at the same time.

This is very important because it establishes that both were equal in every way. Adam was given the power of Naming. Whatever he named that's what it became. Lilith was given power over the plants and things of the Garden and whatever she touched grew strong and bountiful.

But, whenever they had sex, Adam always wanted to be on top which pissed off Lilith. So Adam kicked her out of the Garden and asked God to create another, less perfect female which became Eve.

Some scholars think that after Cain killed Abel and left to go live in the Land of Nod that Lilith was the woman who became his wife. If that's true, then the Catholic Church would definitely not like this idea.

Because it would mean that there is a woman out there who was not in the Garden when Adam and Eve were punished and cursed by God, and that she would still be alive today because she wouldn't have the curse of growing old, sick, or die.

Of course, this is only true if you believe the Bible.

It's in Genesis 2, I think. Part of the reason it says "rib" is due to the translation from Hebrew to English. Hebrew is a complex language where the same word can mean different things. The hebrew word that was used could have meant that Eve was taken from Adam's side or even possibilly his back.

heh it's just another way to put woman in her place by the dogmatic man...lol

the bible said something about making eve from adam, I think in some versions of the bible it actually reads as rib (like DNA)

Apparently God can made Adam from clay, but woman is so complicated that he had to just take a body part from man and switch it up a little. Was creating man that tasking? I mean it only took a day, and he was making a bunch of other little things to go in his train room. I think God was just cutting corners (and cutting overhead costs) by picking up something that he knew worked right and making the match fit so he could go mom later and say
"Look at what I can do." *then stewart dance afterwards*

The old joke that the sex-slave-waitress-nurse-mommy would have cost Adam an arm and a leg, so he asked God "what could I get for a rib?"

It is in the book of Genesis. That is how God created Eve. It was a sign to man that woman was to be a part of him, and that when husband and wife come together they become one, side by side.

just what it says a rib was taken from his side and mixed it in with his love and made woman kind! so woman is made from man but without woman there would be no more man.
