yes it is. it seems tht the fans in New York and Boston stuff the ballot box meaning tht we'll get starting lineup full of Yankees and Red Sox. and for exampl righte now Jason Varitek is leading the AL Catchers in voting, but Joe Mauer should be the clear cut starter because hes batting almost 100 points higher thn Varitek. i feel Troy Glaus should be the starting 3rd baseman and not A-Rod, ARod is having a mediocre year by his standards. but the all star game has turned into a popularity contest and its up to the managers on both teams to select the players who were chosen but didn`t make the teams.

It is a shame. The only reason is the number of people in the northeast and the constant attention they get from the media. ESPN opens with the Red Sox or Yankees almost always. ESPN is located in Bristol Conn. Truth is, A-Rod isn't having that great a season, Cano does not deserve it, Varitek isn't putting up huge numbers either. There are some great players on Chicago, Detroit, Minnesota and Toronto as well. Guys having much better stats than many of the Yankees or Red Sox.

Not really. The Red Sox are having a GREAT season (especially fielding-wise) and although everyone hates them, the Yankees are almost always good. Think about how many years the Braves made up the majority of the NL all-stars. Give it a few years, the AL lineup with have more/different team names on it.

Because the whole world doesn't care about anything but their rivalry. If the Yankees and Red Sox weren't rivals, then there would be a lot more players from other AL teams like the Orioles, Blue Jays(good players, bad record), White Sox, and other teams.

Maybe there are banks of slave computers at MIT and Columbia putting in thousands of ballots for Red Sox and Yankee and Met players. A Twin, White Sox or Tiger fan might actually feel that way about Mauer or Thome for instance.

It is completely ridiculous. There are a lot of other players that deserve it more out there and they can't start just because of the population in New York and Boston. Some of those guys deserve it, but definitely not all. For example, I like Varitek, but Mauer deserves it a lot more than he does. And, A-rod is a good player, but Crede deserves it more than A-rod. Just a couple of examples

because the yankees and the red sox players get the most publicity than anybody else.

Yep it is ridiculous. They shouldn't allow fans to vote because it turns into a popularity contest, and players from the most popular teams get voted in regardless of whether they deserve it.

yeah, they shouldn't call it the all-star game, they should call it the yankees-red sox vs. mets-cardinals game.
