I totally agree! I don't like it when she plays parts like that. It gives her a bad image. Although she plays them well, it makes me think different of her.
Don't get me wrong, I ♥ her! But I just hate when she makes those movies.

The whole point of an oscar is to applaud her talents as an actress. I think that her role in Monsters Ball deserved an oscar. Yes granted there were some racy parts to the movie, how many people have to admit they have had a scene or two like that in their lives. She became her part and that was why she was rewarded. I do not think it was degrading to her I think it gave her a chance to shine and show people what a great actress she is.
I also think that some movies aren't just for the light hearted, Monsters Ball is one of those movies, it tells a story about lives that we would not want to have, I do not hink that that makes it a bad movie. Think of Schindlers List. I think that was a wonderful movie, would i sit and watch it over and over... no... but that still does not make it a bad movie.

She read the script and she chose to do the role. If it wasn't a problem for her, why is it for you? I thought the movie showed a very real (although obviously dysfunctional!) family. There are a lot of bigots in the world and this film showed them (like Peter Boyle's character) for what they are. At least Thornton's character was able to change. His movies are always memorable and thought provoking - after all, he made you write this question. Didn't he?

Whose gonna love her after she's 30 years older?
If she learns to do a wide variety of roles in her youth, she will still popular 30 years later as a diverse actress.
Look at the body of her work, not her body.

I saw a bio on Halle and she seeks out challenging roles. Like in Jungle Fever Spike Lee wanted her for another role and she asked to read for the part of the crack head.

Nasty little movie, I agree about that scene, near porn, what was she thinking? Still she is one of the hottest out there.

It's one of those movies I wish I could "un-see".
Awful!
