Well, when I came for admission to college way back in the 40s I distinctly remember that while I was eager to st ep I was also rather nervous to lift the foot. The move involved a change of place from a nondecrepit town to a throbbing city. Add to it the fearsome prospect of staying alone away from my people.IThe prospect of studying something new far removed from what I was used till then was also disconcerting.Even if I did not understand the concept of entering teenage clearly there was a vague feeling that something new was happening to me.Thoughts which would have got 'Holy Christ' out of me earlier now appeared to be mundane. After all this was the period of change of life genetically and mentally. The nervousness I felt ,even I did not know at the time, was quite natural.I had proceeded to pluckk the fruit of Tree of Knowledge and somewhere within me there was the cold feeling in the guts that I would have to leave the secure environ of Aden. While the prospect did sadden by heart the vista of the vast world outside Aden was beckoning me.

The reasons are not far to seek. In the schools, you are free and pampered, whereas in the college, you need to be more focussed and serious. Further, you are in the peak of your adolescence and therefore you are worried about the prospects in store for you.
Admission is as important as the results, because admission in a good and reputed college matters in employability.

They are depressed because public schools don`t teach them anything. Teaching Self esteem and diversity may make you feel good but it stops right at the point that one can`t answer the first question.
My point is proved by your question.
My daughter is in Christian School and her 2nd grade tested out nationally at 4th and 5th grade public school levels.
The 6th graders tested out as 9th graders against public schools.
Diversity is not taught because it exists. Self esteem is not taught because they have it by knowing the answers. Social change is not taught, math, science, reading, and writing are.
