People might criticize rap music because they falsely associate all rap songs with drugs, money, sex etc, etc...There is more to rap than what most people might think!

Okay this could be kinda long. I like all kinds of music, however with rap its kinda hit and miss for me.

I will tell you why I don't like most of it and maybe this can go for others reasons as well.

1. Most of the time it's the same stuff over and over again
2. I feel some of the artists are very disrespectful towards women
3. I don't like lyrics I can't really relate to. (ie. Fancy cars and shooting others)

Now that being said, I give rappers a world of respect, though I'm not really into their music, they are musicians in their own right. I don't put anyone who likes rap down just because it's not my thing. It makes me sad the people are so close minded sometimes. I wish everyone would show respect for the people around them, the would would be a much better place if that were to happen.

Nope, i am going to't allow you to comprehend what the hell is faulty with todays rap because i ask my self that similar question too. Now a days Lil Wayne claims he's the desirable rapper alive, do not get me incorrect he's incredibly good, yet no longer on the point of desirable. Thank god Jay-Z is back contained in the game. Thank god for Nas and The video games albums for ending 2006 with some good rap ablums. this is like everybody might want to get signed. No skills lately. How come typhoon Chris is getting each of the popularity and D-Block isnt. even notwithstanding D-Block would lyricly homicide everybody.

What is music?? Music is melody!!!
Rap is poems set to a musical backround.
The words almost always sound angry and in you face.
There is sooo much profanity. It's almost like if it didn't
have any profanity, it wouldn't be Rap. It wouldn't be
COOL!! Take a good hard look at who listens to this.
A huge SUV or an average looking ride with a megawatt
sound system, the whole vehicle shaking to the bass beat.
All vibrating to the profanity of the lyrics. There's kids in there!
Their eardrums are getting injured, and they're being taught
that it's ok to be angry at the world!! Talk about RESPECT!!
Respect you're kid's well being. Rap is almost always linked
up with violence. No more "Mister Big" , no more "TU- Pac"
Lil' Kim just got of jail.....and the list just goes on and on....
Opra is justifyed in not letting the likes of Ice cube and the
rest of these Rap "artists" in her show. It just sends the wrong
message. She's against degrating women.

Because no other music style except for rap have their artist shootin' each for no good reason.

That's the major difference between real artists and rappers.

Real artists at least know how to play instruments, have devoted at least some amount of time to learning other styles of music even if they don't like it

Artists like Alicia Keys are classically trained pianists and they actually know what good music is.

Rap... all you need is a good beat behind someone and there ya go.

Also, when bands or artists are faced with competition, that just makes them go back to work harder to create better stuff.

With Rap, if somebody is better than another dude, they could end up getting shot. WTF?!

I like to listen to some rap and hip hop, but the rest sucks.

Well, if someone doesn't like something then thats their right to criticise it.

On the other hand, it is pretty dumb to judge someone by the type of music they like to listen to. I can't say 'all people who listen to rap are black or stupid' cause that would be...Well...Stupid. Judging someone I've never met over music? No one with half a brain should do it.

But I hate rap. Most of it anyway. I hate rap that 1. talks so fast you can't understand it. 2. has one tone throughout the whole song, so it's basically talking while someone bangs on a drum. 3. rap that talks about sex, booty, '******', gangs, or how hard life is in the 'ghetto'. The songs are meaningless, and brainless as far as I'm conserned. But I do like songs like that newer one 'whered you go' and that other one by that one guy... 'so sick of love songs'. Those are some good songs.

Again, people hate what they dont understand. Half of the people who badmouth rap have not even heard a complete rap song and 9 times out of 10 if they have it was by some no talented supposed to be rapper. Real rap takes talent. Just because you may not understand the music does not mean that it is bad or wrong. rap music is a part of the African American culture. Many things from the African American culture went through or is still going through times when it is unaccepted. Our hair styles(braids and locks), they way we dress , our language, and our music. I figure, hey, they hated Jesus! you can't please everyone. But before you open your mouth about something, know your facts!

Here's an encore of my response to a similar question...

From what I've seen, a lot people have complained that rap is "all about drugs, money and bling," it's filled with profanity and it degrades women. And from what I've seen and heard in the mainstream media, that's unfortunately true. But what most of the people that complain about rap's many vices don't realize is that they're only seeing one dimension of rap. The mainstream media has been oversaturated by cookie-cutter rappers because right now, they're the ones bringing their record companies the most money. Some, like me, might be old enough to remember this and some might not be, but back in the late 80's and early to mid 90's there was a lot of variety and substance to rap. You could turn on the radio and hear conscious (as in socially/politically conscious), gangsta, old-school, jazz-infused, comical and storytelling styles of rap back to back in one sitting (or one car trip). THAT is what's sorely lacking in mainstream rap right now - variety and substance. There's nothing to choose from anymore, kinda like going to McDonald's and seeing nothing but fries on the overhead menu.

Fortunately for those of us who haven't given up on hip hop, there's still variety and substance out there if you know where to look. There's always one source of good, quality rap music: the underground circuit. For instance...

And if you're into beats/instrumentals more than the MC, then check out some stuff from Jay Dee, aka - J Dilla (R.I.P.), 9th Wonder, Nicolay and Fat Jon to name a few.

Try it. You might like it. ^_^

I don't care for the language and content in a lot of rap or for the "thug" image that rappers -(whatever!!) portray. It's not something I want my kids idolizing.

P.S. Just because I don't like rap doesn't mean I'm stupid and racist. It doesn't mean that I dislike people just because they listen to rap either... I have the right to my own opinions, likes, and dislikes, just the same as you.

Rap in my opinion has taken a turn for the worse. I can't stand to hear hoes, clothes, money, diamonds in my "grill" over and over again. It's gotten old.It seems to objectify African Americans in a negative way. I don't have golds, i don't sleep with multiple partners, nor should i have rap artist represent me in that way. Music in general is taking a turn for the worse....just a personal opinion

Rock and Heavy Metal have been doing the same thing for years. The last thing we need is another genre of music promoting the same thing.
