Hi,

I have two 'Emydura Macquarii' Freshwater Turtles
one Male one Female

We also had this problem in the beginning.

As the turtles grew so did their tails. The Male has the longer
thicker tail and the Female the shorter slightly thinner tail.

Our Male turtle was also more boisterous in nature when it
came to feeding time he would take all the food and push
the Female out of the way. Even though we tried to feed her
more the Male grew at a much more rapid rate and now 5
years later the female is almost the same size as the male.
She has learn't to fight for her tucker.

often times male turtles have an indented bottom shell(this makes turtle mating possible)..I dont know what type of turtle you have but I have a box turtle(we found out she was female beacause she laid an egg lol)..box turtle males have bright orange or red heads and eyes where as a female is dark brown. males are normally a brighter color where as females are not(this is due to the fact that most creatures need to be camoflauged to hid while they are nesting)..look for color, shape of bottom of shell and size also.

well someone told me that if the hole on in the tail is closer to the shell it is a girl and if it is down by the bottom of the tail it is a boy.. and if the shell is flat then it is a girl and if it is curved it is a boy.

For most turtles:

MALE:
Long, skinny tail
In-curved belly

FEMALE:
Short, wide tail
Flat or out-curved belly

In any case, it is especially hard to determine on young animals, and only really matters if you plan on breeding them. If the name is wrong, the turtle won't mind! :-)

Im not 100% sure but I heard that if its underside is flat its a girl, if its concave its a boy. Reason: If the boys underside where flat it would slip off while mating.
