there is no reason to act like it doesn't bother you, it does and thats that. since you already said you have tried telling him about it what this guy needs is a strong example. sometimes a taste of their own medicine is the only thing that a guy really understands, so turn the tables, when he wants to talk either walk away or do the same thing he does to you, when he is appalled by your behavior then say isn't so funny on the other end is it?
or you could quit talking to him, if you guys generally talk alot during your time together he'll notice your silence and when he asks about it say why should i bother talking you don't listen anyway.
make sure you resolve this before you move away, the last thing you want to do is go to a strange place where he is the only one you know and still not have anyone to talk to (i know i did it a year ago and i've had plenty of miserable days because of it).

my hubby can be the same at times. when they make jokes to avoid conversation, it's usually to avoid the confrontation. they prefer to make a joke and hope the topic goes away. you have to choose your timing. that's crucial. also, set the point you want to talk about first and then give the background behind it. if you take a long time to get to the point, you'll lose his attention in the first 10 seconds. would you find it easier to write him a letter with your concerns and say, "i'd appreciate if you read this and write me a letter in response." if he finds it silly, then say that you'd like to spend 5 minutes talking to him and ensure he's listening. but make sure you stick to your 5 minutes, so he can't roll his eyes and know that 5 minutes will turn into an hour!

I'm at least happy that there's another person suffering just like me. My husband is similar to yours. He also never takes anything seriously even things which he's supposed to take. I've tried every possible approach with no good. If u learn of any new approach pl. tell me.

Why don't you try to prepare a special dinner, with candels, something romantic and try to discuss about everything? Then, just by talking, present him your problems too. If it is a "serious" imvironment, he will not be so funny and maybe he will listen to you more carefully...;)

Talk about something that matters. Half way thru reading your question, I wanted to interrupt you.

When he wants to talk to you about something, just do to him what he does to you, trust me he won't like it.
