Don't do it. You will be in big trouble if caught and it is not worth it. It is also dishonest besides being illegal, and not fair to the next person who buys the vehicle thinking that you are giving them a truthful reading.

on older cars, not sure about the newest ones, simplest thing is disconnect the speedometer cable from the transmission. you will have no odometer, but no speedometer either.

to disable only the odometer, you have to take the speedometer out of the dash, open it up and remove it. the speedometer has a tamper seal on it, to break the seal is obvious sign of tampering, if anyone ever looks. possibly and very likely it is illegal.

you sound like my brother, is that you jeff? i told you its illegal and you will be punish by law. you leave that odometer alone.

anyway, im wondering how did you scratch the number in the first place? and of course, how on earth did you break it?

listen to me, stop it right now. i don't have enough money to bail you out. you will rot in jail. mom just got married, she will be furious knowing you are doing this. we should be in our best behavior.

It's illegal, and if your parents find out you'll be busted!!!!

Also you'll have a tough time ever reselling the vehicle. It is governed.
