That's a good question. I have a lot of favorite authors, because I love to read and read so much and across many genres that to pick just one would be way too limiting. One of my favorite books is Lord of the Flies, but I have not met William Golding. Of course he died in 1993, and I would've been just a child then.
I am a huge fan of John Connolly, the author of the Charlie Parker series. I have not met him, but I do keep a close eye on his book tours. He is from Ireland, so he spends a lot of time touring in other countries, but the next time he comes to my area I will definitely be attending one of his book signings.
Another favorite is James Lee Burke--he writes a mystery series about a detective with a lot of ghosts of his own named Dave Robicheaux. My father got me hooked on his books and he did actually attend a signing of Burke's here in my area. Unfortunately I did not know about it, and I didn't attend, but my dad had a lot of wonderful things to say about James Lee Burke, and very much enjoyed it. Wish I could've gone, but the next time he comes around, I will definitely go.
I am also a big fan of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake and Merry Gentry series. She just released a new book, Danse Macabre, and is doing a tour across the US. I am going to attend her book signing in San Francisco on July 11th, and I'm very excited.
I did have fantasies when I was younger about actually meeting J.D. Salinger. Of course he is very reclusive, and I have heard that he will only agree to meet with children. This never happened, needless to say.
What about you? Who are your favorites, and have you ever met them?

I wouldn't say he is my single favorite author, but he is one of my favorites. I got to meet Dan Brown at the Printer's Row Book Fair in Chicago a year or so ago. My fav of his work is Angels and Demons, just a smidge more than how much I like The Da Vinci Code.

No I haven't met my favorite author--Vladimir Nabokov and the book is Lolita. But I have met a lot of other authors who I really admire---Alice McDermott, Stephen Dixon, Tristan Davies, Jean McGarry and Fred Leebron were all professors of mine. I've met ZZ Packer, E.L. Doctorow, John Barth, Vikram Chandra, J.D. Doyle, Stephen Dunn, Paul Muldoon and many others.

I DID meet one of them. I went to a reading and book signing to see Alice Hoffman, author of MANY terrific books including Practical Magic (which was made into a move with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman), River King (made into a movie), The Drowning Year, A Probable Future, Aquamarine (recently made into a movie).... and more.
My favorite was A Probable Future....and I got her to sign it and I wasn't impressed with her, I'm sad to say. But once I wrote a letter to the author, Richard Bach and he and his then-wife Leslie Parrish Bach wrote me a lovely card back! Does that count?! LOL

I had a chance to take heed to Laurie Halse Anderson (who extremely is genuinely one of my well known authors) talk, and after I went to get my books signed she and the persons round me in line pronounced required interpreting in college and some different issues. The verbal replace did not very last more desirable than 5 minutes notwithstanding it became cool. in case you ever get the probability to pass to an author talk by Anderson, take it. She's were given some unconventional perspectives on the topics of highschool and writing.

Yes, about a year ago I traveled to California to meet Dean Koontz. It was the trip of a lifetime, and I got my picture taken with the man himself. My favorite book would have to be, The Bad Place.

Yeah! A few months ago I met my favorite author David Sedaris (my favorite book by him is "Naked") and it was so awsome. It was after he did a reading and we talked for a little while and he signed my copy of Naked. It was amazing; one of the best days of my life :]

they're both dead. joseph campbell wrote "the power of myth" and a host of other wonderful reads. roald dahl wrote "charlie and the chocolate factory" among other quirky, lovable books.
i'd love to meet in person malcolm gladwell ("the tipping point" and "blink"), anna quindlen ("object lessons", "one true thing"), among other writing greats.
