This question is a perfect example. Around other races I rarely even notice race. Around most Blacks today there is such a hyper sensitivity about race that it's hard to be yourself. You have to watch every word you say or it'll be construed as "racist" . You have to watch what you do or it'll be construed as "racist". A great example is the LA contraversy. Blacks are actually calling for computer terminology to be changed because they are "offended" that it is called Master Slave. This kind of insane thin skinned innanity is aggravating. The terminology has NOTHING to do with race or culture. Nobody I have ever heard of even associated the terms with race! But they want companies to spend millions of dollars to change it. A great example of the gross selfishness displayed by the culture.
Lets see the Rebel flag. To me it's always meant anti-Government sentiment. Rebelliousness, thus it's called the REBEL flag. I've even known Blacks who wore it for the same reason as I do. Yet somehow it mysteriouslly became a racist symbol. Sorry folks the Cival war was NOT about slavery. In fact slavery was a minor issue in the whole thing, not even a major factor. How DARE they call me a racist because I wear a Rebel flag, carry a Maltese cross on my lighter or who knows what other innocent symbol will suddenly become racist to Blacks.
Can you somehow read my mind? No, I don't care about ethnic origions. Would rather not hear or think about it. I treat folks by how they treat me and my friends. I don't want to have to watch every word I say to avoid offending somebody. I just avoid talking to Blacks at length any more because there is just too much out there that offends them. I could see the N word if they didn't use it themselves. Every race has little triggers and you can insult somebody just by tone rather than a given word. There are aholes of every race get over it. Every race experiences some prejudice. Why keep it going with all this hypersensitivity?
African-American??? Get real. Besides being way to long to use it's also putting Africa in front of America. Nor is it even accurate as it leaves out Hispanic Blacks, Blacks from the Carrabean, Australia, UK and so on. It's an insult to Americans in general. What is wrong with Black? I'm White, I'm not Caucasian, I have no Russian ancestors within 3 generations. Anglo Saxon would be closer but you know what? I'm American. I might have Irish and German ancestry but who cares?
Another thing that disturbs me is that as a race they vote something like %90 or more for the same party. That is damaging to Democracy and racist. You don't see %90 of Whites, Hispanics, Asians or any other ethnic group voting for a single party. When somebody votes by thier race they undemine Democracy and feed corruption. Which makes life worse for ALL of us.
And finally, quit laying YOUR probs at my door. I didn't do it and am getting to where I really dont care anymore. You with this post accused all non-blacks of being racist. Whites in particuler are getting a really serious complex about this and it is becoming a major irritant. If your goal is to make racism acceptable continue to take this tact as people will no longer really care about being labeled a racist since your going to be labeled that no matter what you do anyway for the mere sin of being born with a certain color. You want to see racism die quit being so sensitive. There is no grand plan or hatred among most cultures. In fact I see more prejudice against Blacks from Hispanics than Whites nowdays. They are just more sublte about it. You get one loud mouthed White idiot out of million and stereotype the rest of us with it. Then have a media crusade, wheel out Jessie Jackson to make a ton of speaches about it, then go on tv and places like this saying how mistreated you are. That just plain gets old man. Really old. I can match every instance of prejudice you've probably ever faced. So can many or most of the people of all races reading this. In fact quite a few of those incidents likely had nothing to do with your race or were just gut reactions to prejudices YOU were imposing on them.
I could go on for pages. The reality is that if you meet 100 people and ONE of them is a racist get over it. It happens to us all. If you meet 100 people and more 25 are racists best look at what you are doing because racism is NOT that prevalent out there. Most likely you are attributing racism where it does not exist or you are creating it. Come at me with your race on your sleeve and I'll talk to your race rather than you. Come at me as yourself and that is exactly who I'll talk to. If you wear Africa power t-shirts and talk in PC talk of course the whole world will seem racist to you. Try just being yourself. You'll find there are a whole lot of really cool people you've been missing because your so caught up in race and worried about what somebody else is thinking. Who cares what they are thinking? When you run accross an Ahole it's cause they are an Ahole. They will find whatever will bother you most and needle that. In your case it appears to be race. If you were more comfortable with your own race they'd pick on something else, maybe your sense of fashion or your choice in music. The point is they are trying to get your goat and will attack whatever they see as an easy means to get it.
In short people really don't care. Your not a victem of racism. You are a victem of paranoia. Most folks could care less what color your skin is. Though the people who pretend to represent you sure make a big deal of skin color. They are your worst enemy not the average Joe on the street.

It sounds like the people you are describing are racist and ignorant -- and unfortunately, you're right, those people do alienate others based on color of their skin and treat them poorly.
But when you think about how stupid that is -- trusting someone only because their skin is white, or not getting to know a great person just because they were born black -- then you really should end up feeling sorry for the racist people and all of the stupid decisions they will make in their lives and all of the missed opportunities to have quality people in their lives.
So it is good to aknowledg and be aware of racist people, but don't spend any more time than to just say "some are - some aren't - so what" and feel sorry for those that are racist, and spend your time with those -- black, white, brown, yellow, whatever -- that are not racist.
Be careful too that you do not become racist thinking that everyone who sees your skin color will prejudge you -- again be aware that stereotypes are out there and that racist people are also out there, but don't become untrusting and defensive because that will then give people reason to alienate you for a very real attitude and personlaity that you choose to display.
Great question -- big hug, and be strong, smart and compassionate even in the face of those who are not :)

Not all blacks or all whites down the other race. This is mostly the younger people. After you are a little older you notice your black friend or you white friend is on the phone talking to their kids who are at home while they work. They will be talking about things like mow the lawn and if you are hungary get a bag of pop corn out and put it in the microwave for 4 minutes. Or can you tell me how wide that door way is so I can pick up one one the way home and we an put it up tonight.
It is no longer hey blood, whats up dude, save me a joint and we'll go hunt some hoes when I blow this place. I know I'm out of time with the kid sayings but who cares. There is only one race in my world and it is human race, not black, white or yellow or what ever. Once you get past youth most of your im better then you crape goes away and everyone turns in to people. I do have black friends but it is never noticed that I am white and they are black. He is an accountant and I am a controller. We talk a lot to make money. We both need new doors and our lawns mowed.
The human race is the only race there is so stop hatin.

We are all people living in the world. To alienate black people is totally wrong. I am of the opinion, we all no matter what colour we are need to live in harmony. There is nothing wrong with any ones colour of the skin. In conclusion i say we are all equal.
Black people are definitely not a disease. You guys are humans and need to be treated properly.
I think the reason some people not all think Black people are a disease . It is due to past customs that black people were treated like they were a disease. This is in the dark ages . it is now the 21st Century we all need to be treated as one and treated the same.

Honestly I do not know what you mean. I have a very good friend who is half Korean and half black and she is so beautiful. I love her dearly.
The one thing I do feel though is that I am not worth anything because of what my ancestors did so many years ago when I am around other black people. Why can't black people forgive the sins of the past. Jesus did. He loves the whole world and He would never alienate you. He wants you to Believe in Him so you could be adopted into our family of God. Then you would be my sister in Christ. All you have to do is believe that he died on the cross for your sins and that he rose from the grave three days later and went to heaven to show God that he paid for your sins. Then ask Him into your heart and to forgive you of your sins and tell Him that you believe in Him as God in flesh and that you want to be in His familiy. Thats it. By the way did I tell you that my very good friend was adopted by a white couple who loves her very much and would never ask for another child. Maybe you feel alienated b/c you alienate yourself.

The only ones I know that are like that, are ones that were raised in a racist atmosphere, and either don't dare to, or care to break that attitude cycle...
Also part of it comes from some of the black folks and their attitude that the world owes them...
I didn't do any of those sins, I treat all equally, no matter what color the skin....
It's a very sad thing if you ask me...
Sorry that in this day and age folks are still being treated like that...
Keep on smilin child it's getting better as we all age...

Are you sure THEY alienate YOU? Maybe it's the other way around.
But... I suppose as long as there are differences you will always have people who refuse to mingle with anyone who is not "like" them. It stems from a deep seated self-hatred where from contempt is born. Ironically, they are alone. They feel diseased. And perhaps they are...diseased in the worst way possible...spiritually. If you think it through you can follow the thought patterns of almost anyone as long as you understand from whence he/she is coming. But do not forget to thoroughly survey the most important person first...YOURSELF.
When I am happy and completely content I love everybody and everything. Think about it.

Some people are just small minded. I will admit that black and white people don't share the same interests but there is nothing wrong with that. If you engage a conversation with me I'm not going to grab for the gas mask. =)

almost all white people are racist. even those who claim not to be racist usually are in some ways. racism is such a part of white american culture that it takes some serious soul searching and education to discover all the ways we are racist so we can begin to get beyond it.
a lot of people dont mean to alienate black people but dont understand the complex history of blacks in the us and dont know how to act towards black people and other peoples of color.
of course, some white folks intentially alienate black people.

They are prejudice because they will not attempt to understand and respect others, mainly because they are unaccustomed to being with different races. It could also be they had bad experience with some black people and in their mind they are trying to avoid similar situation; therefore stereotyping you.
