With the hostility and intolerance I read on questions regarding something about Christianity, I began to think that it was very high maybe about 20%. But I listen to Christian radio in my car, with related news in the states and around the world and realize that it must be much much lower than that.
Personally after reading all the bashing, the radio is a refreshing comfort. I know one atheist. Anyone else I know that is has not said so. But the radio also reminds me that as terrible as the bashing is, God is much bigger. It just makes me feel better.

How Many Atheists in America?
Atheists appear to be a growing segment of the population - but how big of a segment? Decent figures seem hard to come by, perhaps because admitting atheism is as much of a social taboo as admitting homosexuality. Add in confusion about the definition of atheism and a very difficult situation is created
A plurality (42%) of all adults (but only 37% of men) thinks God is male, but only 1% thinks God is female. Almost half of all adults believe that God is neither male nor female (38%) or that God is both (11%).
If you add up the numbers, that works out to 92% responding on the gender of god. This suggests 8% who must not believe in any sort of god with any gender.

The question gets trickier as an increasing percentage of modern Americans don't seem to know the difference between atheism and agnisticism (see some of the responses above).

Know one knows the heart but God. People say they believe in God and live contrary. The Bible says that hell enlarges itself every day, therefore, you can't get an accurate count.
