If you buy a laptop get what you want the first time around. Laptops are notoriously difficult to upgrade.

If you buy a desktop the answer is "it depends". It can make sense to upgrade a PC after you buy it because you won't have to drop all that money at one time. Also new components come out all the time.

I think the term "better" is a judgement call. I have a laptop and find it "better" because I can take it with me when I go places. That said, a desktop is still relatively more powerful in many cases and usually less costly, so in that sense it is "better."

Get a fully upgraded computer first as opposed to buying it now and upgrading later (unless you cannot afford the upgrade at this point).

i think the desktop better.
u can upgrade into htpc or home theatre pc
full upgrade pc is good but u manually upgrade better.

i can give u an advice for the best pc u ever have:

1. ram(random acsess memory) at least 1 gb - 8 gb
2. sound card creative 5.1
3. the VGA(virtual graphics adapter) 1-4 gb, i think the "ATI all in wonder" with tv tuner is good.
4. harddisk 250-400 gigabyte
5. Creative active speaker
6. lcd monitor
7. u can change ur processor in to intel Viiv or intel penitum D
8. use the Windows xp Media Center or Windows vista
9. mother board with 4-8 ram slot

if you know your way around computers or have someone that will do it for free, upgrade yourself - all the way

if you dont, just buy it upgraded and save yourself the hassle

when u know what you're doing, you can save money by upgrading only the parts you need, or only to the specifications of your demands.
