My boyfriend just graduated with a ba in international relations and a minor in conflict resolution. he wants to get to d.c. and move on with his career and start his "international always on the plane, never at home life" lol. but this scares me not because he'll be gone a lot cuz im in school for medical school and ill be quite busy myself. but im scared because of the way things are in the world. is it safe? i know him. if he smells conspiracy, he wants to know everything about it and make it right....that scares me. he also wanted to get into sports management which he'd be great at too, so he's torn between the two. should i relax about the int'l relations?

I would have to ask what languages he speaks. If the best he can do is American, then the "sports management" career is definitely the best.

When I was still working for the gubbernment and traveling constantly, I could handle 4 languages fluently and another 4 well enough to get by... but there were times when I needed language skills that I just didn't have.

In this day and age, he needs Arabic, French, Spanish and Farsi at a minimum, if he's planning to spend his career in Europe and Africa or the Middle East.

I think he should do whatever his passion is. It would be great if your two passions could line up. For instance, you could both live abroad and you could give medical aid and help develope respect from locals, which would then make your boyfriends life safer.

I think it's great that he wants to get down to the bottom of things. We need more people like him (and more journalists to have that experience and education). It's really super dangerous and you are right to worry. But just think what the world will become without people like him, even worse.

Hate to scare you but flying esp. Middle East and Africa is notoriously dangerous. I wonder if they maintain their planes or just negatively assume that a rocket or carried on bomb will blow it out of the sky so why waste all that work...

Your friend might get into trouble investigating sports but that is much safer...and as an American he'll be safer from kidnapping than going abroad. He may need a friend with a gun ie bodyguard, to pick him up in Florida because they know passengers are HELPLESSLY GUNLESS when they de-plane in Florida.

We are here to give back, whether the neo conservatives want to believe that or not. I think it sounds great and I am in school for that too. I want to make a difference in the world. I cant go to my grave thinking that I didnt at least try to make some kind of change.

SPORTS MANAGEMENT SOUNDS MORE SAFE THAN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS. UNLESS HE ENJOYS LIVING ON THE EDGE.
