Make some records but don't tour just yet... remember that in public speaking, or singing, there are different types of audiences.
If you become famous and there are thousands of fans screaming your name, it's okay to come out from behind the curtain and just say a few words to the crowd. Anything for you to feel comfortable, but remember that if these are people that are paying money to see you perform, they love your music and are completely favorable... Also, sing slower songs that don't warrant dancing, that way, it won't look awkward or out of place should you decide to be a little more stationary.

If it's the size of the audience that bothers you, you could also play to smaller venues, where it's more intimate; but if it's the fear of judgment, then play to crowds as huge as you can stand, to make focusing in on the facial expression of any one fan dam near impossible.
