It is probablly organic chemistry as that is a monster of a class. If you are in college, many chemistry classes are part of a pre-med major, and they have certain tasks that are designed to weed out students unable to complete the tasks necessary. I once asked my professors about this, since I was a Biology major looking toward teaching, and he said many schools do this, with the first chemistry class weeding out those who were nowhere near capable or ready, and then Organic Chemistry really forging the toughest candidates.
In other words, you are up late studying because the course you are in is designed to test your abilities in such a way that you will be ready for even harder tasks. It may be a "plot" such as it is, but I can't find it in me to complain, since I'd rather not have a doctor that had "easy" classes.

I know I'm going to sound like you dad or something with this. Chemistry is not a subject you can cram for. You have to learn it in small bites. If you're up late studying for a test the next day you will probably fail.

Because you can! Education is empowerment! Way to be a good person!
I don't know either. I always studied chemistry because I was in the class. Maybe that's what got me the A.

I will answer your question with one of mine. Why does a 13 year old like me stay up at night viewing the yahoo answers page and watching modern marvels, mythbusters, and so on? Because he wants to learn. Probably the opposite of you, you probably just want to pass chemistry class. By the way, Yes, I was talking in 3rd person for more drama.

Because you registered late for the class, got the instrcutor no one wanted, didn't understand a word of his broken English, and finally asked they shy girls in class to study with you at the all-night laundromat

Procrastination. You begin early, you divert your attention, and you are up late "studying" when you could be equally productive sleeping.
