Perhaps neither, because we already know what happened in the past from history; and it might not be a good thing to know the future, otherwise we'll never learn how to deal with problems on our own if we always knew what was going to happen.

Check out Einsteins Theory of Reativity. It is very intresting. and here is my way if seeing the same thing he is trying to say. But in a non theory way of saying it.
You can't go backwards in time because of the fact if you could and tell your self who won the superbowl it would have already happened and you would have already went back so no need to go back and change things you already did it. So history can not be changed. And there is no way to go backwards in time. However if you went 50 years forward you could never go back to today because it has all ready happened so you would be stuck in the year 2056.
In real life you can time travel forward, if you can move fast enough. If you could travel at the speed of light or faster and you do this for one year round trip you will come back one year older and everyone you knew will have been dead and gone from old age. So, you can not go back to today again. You are locked there.
Was that confusing? It gets deeeeeeeeeeeeeper.

Each way would have its advantages...but I would go forward because history could not be changed, otherwise it would already be that way...right?
So, I would move forward about 3 years at a time, and see what changes will happen, and if they are bad...what to do to take advantage of the situation.
For example...you find out that a huge quake destroys the west coast...so I would move away, and try and warn people about it.
Or find out which stocks will go up, or what trends are going to happen, or who the next Bill Gates will be.
