I am in my early 30's and don't feel that I have found my "calling". How did you know that you found yours, and what are was it in? Help from those in their 30's would be appreciated.

Little bit of everything.... I like most things & do well in most jobs, so I picked something I liked.

I would recommend temping - you move around a lot, you gain very useful experience, you make contacts, plus you get a chance to "try before you buy" :)

Another suggestion is to think of things you are good at or enjoy. i.e. are you interested in opening your own business with the skills and experience you have? Maybe do a short course and see what happens.

Good luck

Feelings of unrest is a sure sign that you are not where you should be. I have waited forty two years and found what Confucius said when he quoted: "Find a job you love and you'll never work a day in your life". It was not exactly what was on my shopping list of great jobs either! I had put in thirty applications around the towns i live and did not get one call back. I though that was kind of bazaar but it is true. The only job that called me back was working in a group home for teenagers that have been pulled out of their homes from Child Protective Services. They are a handful to say the least and when i started the job I was brought to tears over the course of a week. My co-workers were taking bets whether i was going to show up for work the next day! I really didn't think i would like it and i stayed and have loved it since! I would have never have guessed that this was my kind of job either but somehow the universe or God if you will plugged me right into what my calling was in life. You have no idea how unbelievable getting here was for me because I'm college educated and don't make much money at all but sometimes you have to realize what turns out to be your calling in life has nothing to do with money so keep that in mind. The great universe will strive to help you find your calling if you just ask and keep it in your mind at all times and it will come to fruition sooner than you think! I promise!

I will suggest you to Go for the internet business, which requires less of your time and the one that will not make you feel headache with web designing, or which require IT knowledge. Second, choose the internet based company which offer you the opportunity and at the same time giving you the convenience to start the business. Ya I am there with ya.

I didn't know what to do after high school and after my first year of college I was bored out of my mind.

I enlisted in the Air Force National Guard and went into Space Command. I enjoyed my time in and got some great education in the technology field.

I have been in Telecom for about 12 years but I too feel I missed my calling and I am 34. I am considering going back to school to get a degree in something completely different but I can't decide which interest to follow.

A few thoughts:

-I think once you figure out the type of work you like, try getting a part time job in the industry to see if it is the type of career path you'd like to follow. I recommend a temp agency as they can place you at lots of different firms to help avoid you making a choice based on a companies culture versus the type of career you can start there.

-Hiring managers usually look for traits in you that lead them to believe you will be very successful. If you want to be a major league ball player, you better have a good swing. This helps corrall people into the right career, based on their schooling, experience, hobbies, etc.

-Try talking with colleges about their different degree programs. They may let you sit in on a few classes to see if you like them prior to enrolling. If you like design classes, you may want to become a designer. You can either sign up for classes, or hit the pavement and try to get an entry level position and learn as you go.

I'm 27, and I just finally chose a career. Here is some advice that I can give that someone gave to me that really helped.

Go back to your days in high school or early college. Name me the two classes that you took the most out of. For me, they were Sophmore English, where I really learned to write, and American Government. I'm now pursuing a career in journalism and couldn't be happier, but that came after trying tons of different things before.

Quite honestly, I ignored what my high school career testing results said back jr yr of high school... said that I was a nuturer & should work with children. After changing my major 3 times... I took some time off (conitinued to babysit while finding my calling - when finally whammo!, it came to me.) Went back to school and studied Early Childhood Education. Was one of things that was right in front of my nose --- but I didn't see it... taught preschool for 5 years, started a family and have been a stay-at-home-mom ever since.
Just from my experience, I'd TRY one of those career tests - couldn't hurt in figuring out your desires and strengths. WIsh I knew what I know now, wouldn't have wasted so much time (and $$) trying to figure out what I wanted to be when I 'grew up' :o)

im 33 and I have been a firefighter for a little over three years. My older brother was a firefighter and recently retired. I had went to college and spent most of my adult life in a job I hated. I finally told my brother when I was 29 to let me know when the fd was hiring. I had always wanted something that I felt I could be proud of. I got hired that same year .This was it, I couldnt be any happier.

If work was fun......they wouldn't pay you for it.....you'd have to buy a ticket to get in!!!! Find something you are at least mildly interested in that pays the most money. Health care will be big into the near future..... go to school become a nurse, you can work 3 12's and make $60K a year.

I'm 51. Chose medical transcription about 20 years ago because I didn't have to have that much interaction with others at work. Now I work from home and love it! And it pays really well.
Plus I have benefits and PTO cuz I work for the local hospital.
