the cord turns orange but the powerbook does not start

Look in the instructions for the two power light locations.
One is for battery and the other is when ac power is on and the battery is charging.

well if u can see a battery in ur tast panel its sure that ur running through battery which means ur adaptor is not functioning u can find the task bar in lower right handside where u can see the time
Another way of finding out is to go to control panel and check for power options, double click on it and u can check the status

Well, let your laptop die, then plug in the ac adapter for 3 minutes, unplug it and turn on the laptop.
If it turns on, you've picked a winner!

if a light comes on, on your laptop then it works if not it's messed up get a new one

probably you had a bad connector on ur laptop.
