You are given a sheep, lion, pile of grass, and a very small boat cappable of carrying only you and one of the three things mentioned. Your goal is to bring the sheep, lion, and the pile of grass over the deep river to the other side where there is land. However, you must not let any of these things eat each other(Note: The pile of grass can not eat nighter the lion nor the sheep.) while they are left alone. What steps must you take to ensure the safety of the sheep and the pile of grass?(Note: At the begining the sheep, lion, and the pile of grass are all left together, so everything must be done fast before things go out of hand.)

I have heard one similar to this before - I think you might have missed some things in the wording. Assunimg you can leave the lion and the grass together you would take the sheep across, go back and get the grass, leave the grass and take the sheep back, leave the sheep and take the lion across, go back and get the sheep.
If NONE of them can be left alone together and you can only take ONE thing, it is impossible

Bring the Sheep over first as the lion won't eat the grass. Then bring the grass over. You wouldn't want to be in the boat -w- the lion if it is hungry, and if it is it will brave the water and swim across anyway to get either ther sheep or yourself

I'd take the sheep first; then move it far from the river bank before bringing the grass and the lion, in either order. I don't get the difficulty; what am I missing?
