Do you believe the sky is blue? Is it because you choose to believe, or because you can see it? If you say you believe in something does it mean you are convinced, or you choose not to question or think about it any more?

A belief is something someone holds to be true. The act of believing does not necessarily imply a quantity or quality of proof and may or may not correlate to knowledge, knowledge being a conceptual grasp of a fact or facts about reality.

As children many of us are told about and encouraged to believe in Santa Claus. Many of us believe in Santa until we learn enough about reality to appreciate that such a person can not and therefore does not actually exist.

Do I believe the sky is blue? The path to enlightenment consists of asking "Is the sky blue and if so why and how can I obtain the degree of certainty about this I require to live my life as a rational human being?"

Reality is not dictated by what we choose to believe but the quality of our knowledge and the benefits to living this offers us dictates that our beliefs should correspond to reality.

I assume you refer to a belief in God. So I would ask you the question, "Why do you "believe" that there is no God?" Is it because you know, because you cant see him, or because choose not to?

Unlike true science, beliefs can not be tested. There is evidence of blue skies.

Beliefs however can be more powerful than the facts.

Knowledge is true belief. So belief as such is not knowledge and belief is always subject to doubt, question, justification & revision.

I choose to believe because I have faith in the unseen and willingly accept the unknown.

faith...is something you feel is true in our hearts..it can't be proven..yet, it lingers..in our deepest conscience...in our hopes and dreams..there it is faith..in something we can't see..yet we know that it is there..God.
