congress wrote it into law as all laws are written. if they wrote it for people to vote, they wouldn't get anything. by wriiting it into the amendments along time ago, they give themselves raises all the time while wages stay the same for the rest of the country.

When this country was founded, it was thought that the representatives of this country would be its best and brightest. But the people have decided to elect goofballs. We, the People, always get the government we deserve. So, in the big picture, it's all our fault.
We need leaders, not panderers.

Think about it for a minute. As appealing as that sounds, the cost of HAVING such an election would probably be about 10,000 times the amount fo the pay raise.

I think that each state should be able to set the pay for their members of congress and senate. That way when you have a joker running for president you can cut his/her pay since they aren't helping the state.

If you could give yourself a raise every year, wouldn't you? Those are under the house rules committee, to change that, you'd have to replace those members with others, a difficult process at best.

because we are not dealing w/ a lot of points to consider before making a decision. congress should need to dig in further in this issue rather than say his opinion.
that's why YOU should vote for a representative that really speaks your voice!!!

Great question!!!!!! I know of no one else in the world who can give themselves a raise. You should start a grass roots campaign to really put some pressure on those guys to stop that. or else.!!!!!!!!!! lotsa luck Babe

If you had the ability to give yourself a raise I bet you'd want to keep that power.
