take it from someone whos in the field a lot, meaning actually in a developing country: do something simple and effective, that is actually applicable and cheap that will improve living conditions for those without financial resources, like simplifying traditional methods of water treatment, i.e. using the starch of a seed to clarify turbid water can be simplified if the seed is engineered to have more starch.

Read an article recently on bio-tech advances. Theres so much happening makes me think of Star Trek BORG. Wish I still had that article, I'd share it with you. It was in a weekly computer trade mag.
