It's the people that's wrong with todays Democracy, i think when things are going wrong in our government that we should rise up and complain, force them to hear our voices and make them remember why they're in their offices.
Our alternative is to find politicians who care about this country and not be saying crap just to get votes. It's sad that these parties are paying more attention to certain groups instead of Americans as a whole, with those tactics it only divides because they only represent those people they've been focusing on.

There is nothing wrong with our democracy today other than we the public have become lazy. Example...Congress vetoes a bill to introduce term limits upon the offices they hold. The public in general supported the idea but said oh well, what can we do. I'm no genuis, but I'm guessing we could not vote for the same congress member every single election would be good start. Who knows...with a new member in office every 2-4 years it may be harder for big business to keep paying them off every time somone new comes along. We would have to vote for someone new everytime an outgoing congress member termed out so it would be the same. The more they are rotated out of office the better. Just like big business, when old ideas don't work, fire them and hire someone new with fresh ideas. Breathe life back into democracy and she will survive.

I think a sad part of the democracy is that there are few alternatives. I agree with the people earlier who said the problem lies in part with the people. But another big part is that the majority of people who get into politics seem to be more self-serving than for the people. Let's face it, if you don't work on perfecting your public image, if you don't hide all the skeletons in your closet (does anyone NOT have them?), and most of all, if you don't have money, you aren't going to get into politics. And those who do are for the most part furthering their own personal agendas, either from the industries from which they came, or because of company kickbacks or threats to move elsewhere. I think our political system is in a real dire situation, mainly because the people who are running in politics don't give people a reason to believe/trust in them anymore. And the problem, therefore, with today's democracy, is that for the most part, these are the only people who are getting into politics, and because they are the only ones, there are no alternatives for people to vote for.
What's the alternative??? Come up with a system in which the average lay person can have more influence/more ability to run in politics without the need to have a ton of money.

The government of the United States is that of a federal republic set up by the Constitution of the United States, adopted by the Constitutional Convention of 1787. it is not a democracy.. if it were it may be much better for all and maybe not quite so corrupt as we would actually have a voice instead of just thinking we do

The alternative to what we have today would be a democracy.
A democracy has free and fair elections, and probably a government that works for the people more then corporations.

There's no viable alternative to Democracy.
The problem is the people. Democracy relies upon the people, and the people in this country have become a sad lot. But it's still better than socialism, communism, or any other "ism".

Give the government back to the working class. We've got too many pamper richkids callin' the shots.
None of them knows what it is to really work or be forced to "kite" a check till payday or do without a meal because there's no money.

I don't think there is anything wrong with today's democracy. It's better than any alternative. Why do you ask?
