This is a general answer as it relates to all life not just Human Life or the life of just sentient beings.

I believe that the basic meaning of life is to reproduce. I base this on the fact that every life form does so.

The meaning of life can mean so many different things.

To one person, its defying the odds and making a difference in the earth. To another, its reaching others that need help and are less fourtaunite than us, and helping them. And to someone else it could be living the ordaniary life, getting married, a good paying job and having a few kids.
Life is all about what you want it to be. You can be ordinairy, or extrordinairy. Its all about what you want to accomplish in your life, and what you think you should give back to the world for having the gift of creating your own story.
I belive every life is so fragile, and soo important in every way. No matter who you are, you are a person. Just like everyone else. You may not be the prettiest, smartest, or wealthyest, but you are a person, and we all share one thing: we are granted the gift of life.
Some people want to return the gift, some people want to use it for the better godo fo the world, it all depends on what you wnat life to mean to you.
Good luck with life, and have fun writing the story of yours.

I think your suppose to ask the guru on top of the mountain, but here's my shot ;procreate, don't take more than you give, be kind . I like this Poem so I copied it for you.
Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons,
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals;
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Birth to death.

I''m being serious.

The meaning of life is your life. The way you live your life, who you want to be, who you present to the world, how you treat others, and what you want people to remember you by.

Life is short. How do you want to spend your life.

As you get older your understanding of people and the way everyone lives starts to get real clear.

Your not testing your faith in this question, you are asking about the real meaning of your life.

You are life.

Meaning of life huh? I understand the truth is to fulfill ones purpose. If we didn't choose to be male/female, pick our parent's, our talent's, or our many other characteristics that happened at birth, then who did? If life is just to live it our without a purpose, then whether we live or die is meaningless. We are nothing more than another dead ant. But, if there is purpose, than what is it. Our purpose is to live happy, for eternity, in heaven with God. But if there is a heaven there is a hell, and Jesus is the only road to heaven. The history books will tell of a man named Jesus of Nazareth who was crucified and buried. This Innocent man died a murders death so that we may choose to believe in him and live for him and gain eternal life. I challenge you to watch "The Passion of the Christ". And or, ask Jesus to show you he is real. He will. "For God so LOVED the world that he GAVE his only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVED in him SHALL NOT perish but HAVE eternal LIFE." John 3:16
That is is our meaning of life, to live a life of abundance through Jesus, and save as many souls as we can. Like I said, if this all sounds far fetched, then just ask.

But what if it's true???

The answer, I'm afraid, is rather disappointing; it turns out that life is its own meaning.
