Back in the 1980s, there were changes to a lot of things that didn't need to be changed. Remember when they changed the taste of Coke and everyone complained until they brought the original taste back? A similar thing happened to Spiderman
You see, Spiderman was part of an epic series called the "Secret Wars" where he, the Fantastic Four, XMen, Avengers, The Hulk etc were transported to another planet by a supreme being called The Beyonder. They were made to fight in a war against a collection of villians (Dr Doom, The Lizard, Dr Octopus and so on)
On this planet, Spiderman discovered the Black Suit, which added to his powers. It could shoot webs without the shooters and he could control it with his mind. It was part of a new campaign by Marvel and Spidey started wearing the black suit. The fans didn't like this, however, and complained until they put Spidey back in his original red and blue. The suit turned out to be alive and escaped, met Eddie Brock, and became the greatest villian Spidey ever faced, Venom. Marvel did more than make up for their mistake by turning it into a great villian.
Venom will be featured in SpiderMan 3. I can't wait to see it!!!!

All of you are right to some degree. The alien machine from the "Secret Wars" is one. The alien on the shuttle is two. The third is from Ultimate Spider-man where Peter Parker is investigating Eddie Brock's Venom Project (a joint venture between Eddie's & Peter's fathers) and gets some of Eddie's "Dip" on him which creates Venom. There are also different Green Goblin/Hob-Goblin origins. The original was that Norman & Harry Osborn were both Green Goblin but the Ultimate story is that Harry becomes the Hob-Goblin after he was mutated in the same accident that gave Doc Ock his powers.
Hope all this helps.

Alright, his suit is black because it eventually becomes attached to Eddie Brock (Topher Grace) and becomes Venom. Its unclear whether this is going to be an alien, like the comic books, or some other thing, although it is definately living, so most likely an alien. Somebody mentioned the secret wars, fat chance of that happening. Most likely, if it's an alien, it will be brought back to earth on John Jameson's spaceship, ala the fox cartoon series. Now, although Harry Osborn is supposed to be the next green goblin, I can almost guarantee he will be the "hobgoblin." And somebody said there was only three goblins, wrong, there's four green goblins and one hobgoblin. The last two green goblins were jokes and never took off, that's why norman was bought back from the dead. Don't expect venom in this movie though, he'll be saved for the fourth movie.

Spiderman Bonded with an alien ooze that assumed the form of the costume. What he did not know was that the ooze was alive and was feeding off of his life energy and was causing him to behave violent and erratic. Once he figured out that the costume was really a living alien, he was able to get rid of it only using sonic weapons ( in this case a church bell). The alien survived the bell and later bonde with daily planet photographer Eddie Brock, given birth to one of Spiderman's deadliest nemesis, Venom.

The actual story is that the symbiote comes back with Jameson's son from a moon expedition, and somehow when studying it in a lab with Dr. Conners (The Lizard) some gets on Peter, the symbiote then takes over his mind and body creating the black suite. Later Peter gets the suit off from the vibatrions caused by a bell tower in which Eddie Brock (Peter Parker's Nemesis) sees that Parker is in fact Spiderman. Once the symbiote is off Parker, Brock goes to investigate, the symbiote takes over Brock, thus Venom is born. That is why he has a black costume in the movie.

This is the storyline making a turn towards the "Venom" character. The black thing you see in the trailer is an alien entity the is a symbiote. Parker doesn't even realize he has it until it starts to turn him into a darker, more vengefull person. Then tries to rid himself of it before he loses his mind. The symbiote then finds another host, someone who hates Spiderman as much as it does and "Venom" is born.

well in the comic books, spiderman went into outer space to help the other superheros fight in a cosmic battle. when he returned this alien symbiote came back with him and attached himself to spiderman. the symbiote allowed spiderman to have his costume without even wearing it by transforming itself into clothes or his costume. it even allowed him to have unlimited web fluid and gave him a little bit of extra strength. the only problem was that the symbiote wanted to merge with spiderman permanently in which spiderman didnt want that. this will later on cause the symbiote to join this character named eddie brock who blames spiderman for his firing from the newspaper in getting revenge against spiderman.

Spiderman discovers an unknown substance in the comic series, that I believe comes from space. The substance too powerful for Spiderman's abilites overtakes him as if it becomes a part of him. So, in this battle is introduced Eddie Brock, later becoming the villain Venom.

Spiderman flies into space in The Secret Wars comic book series with heroes such as the Hulk and Captain America. His signature costume is destroyed in the battle and he discovers a machine that creates another costume for him. Once back on earth he discovers that the costume is actually a symbiotic creature that tries to take him over. Hopefully the movie will stay true to the comic. We can only wait and see.
