Despite all the expert answers you have received so far, virtually any ore body will contain elements of precious metals such gold and silver. There are several types of equipment on the market that with use and practice will help you identify prospective areas. I have used mine to locate a gold location that runs from 2-3 oz/ton to as high as 10-12 oz/ ton of gold. We are just now getting our mining permits in order ans should begin operations in the next few months. You should be aware that most surface or easily obtainable material has been located or is so fine that it takes a massive investment to process the material. BUT do not let that stop you, people have walked right over good sites and never known it. May I suggest www.ICMJ.com for further information. Or if You can figure how to contact me at yahoo I will be glad to help you along. The hardest lesson I learned when working an area is to look at everything, you might be looking for silver and come across a mineral deposit of another type which could mean more value to you in the long run.

Silver is a naturally occurring element. It is found in the
environment combined with other elements such as sulfide,
chloride, and nitrate. Pure silver is “silver” colored, but silver
nitrate and silver chloride are powdery white and silver sulfide
and silver oxide are dark-gray to black. Silver is often
found as a by-product during the retrieval of copper, lead,
zinc, and gold ores.

Silver is found in native form, combined with sulfur, arsenic, antimony, or chlorine and in various ores such as argentite (Ag2S) and horn silver (AgCl). The principal sources of silver are copper, copper-nickel, gold, lead and lead-zinc ores obtained from Canada, Cobalt, Ontario, Mexico (historically Batopilas), Peru, Australia and the United States.

This metal is also produced during the electrolytic refining of copper. Commercial grade fine silver is at least 99.9% pure silver and purities greater than 99.999% are available. Mexico is the world's largest silver producer. According to the Secretary of Economics of Mexico, it produced 80,120,000 troy ounces (2492 metric tons) in 2000, about 15% of the annual production of the world.

Silver is used to make jewelry, silverware, electronic
equipment, and dental fillings. It is also used to make photographs,
in brazing alloys and solders, to disinfect drinking
water and water in swimming pools, and as an antibacterial
agent. Silver has also been used in lozenges and chewing gum
to help people stop smoking.

silver like gold like most precious metals are found in the ground, melted into bedrock from long ago.

unless you have drilling and mining equipment to dig at least 1 mile down, give up the hope of finding a mine in a stream
