I don't so I can't say why that is the way some women deal with unhappiness. But let's also be fair, some men also eat due to unhappiness.

well that's a sexist question if ever I read one.

It is not just women that get comfort in food, men do too. And now that precident is established....

Food has always been a comfort, conditioned from birth. A baby has a pain in it's stomach and cries, the mother immediately feeds him/her. The baby begins to understand when pain food heals. Its a concept that is still ingrained in each human's head.

There are also foods that when digested emit enzymes and endorphines that react with the body to manipulate hormones. Didn't know that did ya'? Chocolate is one. Chocolate releases a string of biochemicals that affect the body in a number of different ways. One of which is to make one happier. That is why it is so addictive, not to mention the sugar and the taste. Chocolate actually works to relieve stress, tension and depression.

Food takes your mind off your life for as long as the flavor lasts... so many of us try and make it last as long as possible. Yes, it is probably the opposite of what you should do, but when you're depressed you aren't really thinking of what is good for you. I'm sure this is true for both male and females, just as it's true that some people eat less when they are depressed.

To be fair, men also have been known to eat when they are depressed. I had a 300 pound friend who was a prime example.

Because the act of eating releases the pleasure hormone that makes us feel better. Like chocolate does.

Everyone deals with what bothers them in a different way. Indulging in food is really no different then indulging in alchohol, drugs, or promiscuous sex after a bad day.

eating is a stress reliever....it is easier than working out.... I think i read somewhere that when people eat it releases serotonin... haha... but don't quote me on that. Oh course working out can give you the same kinda high... but it requires effort.
