Go for it. I dont know who said it but there is a well known quote out ther "If you want to be a writer, WRITE!!" Whatever inspires you, whatever moves you, write about it- the worst that can happen is it wont be well liked and you will have it out of your system, learn from it and move on the best is beyond the sky is the limit. Either way it will be a positive learning experience!
GO for it!!!!!!

Ooh, fun! I'd love to read it, actually. I'm a big fan of modernizing Shakespeare, since that was kind of what he was about in the first place. That would be wicked. I encourage you to go for it. If it comes out well, maybe you can talk to a community college theatre department about making it come to life.

it's been done many times.
everybody loves updating Shakespeare. that's the beauty of his writing, that the themes stay universal.
Shakespeare should be accessible to everybody, so if you think that you can help that then absolutely go for it.
my suggestion is do write it, but dont research the other versions until you are done so it doesnt sway your own creative energy.

whatever floats your boat. Personally I think a contemporary version of Homer would be more interesting.

You could..but check into copyrights and stuff. Hamlet is a tough one. I think you should but do your homework first.

That would be awesome!
no offense, but personally I think that shakespear's stories are long and drawn out, way more than they need to be. shakespear was perfect for his time, but just look at edgar allen poe. he was regarded as, well, a creep. but his stories are very gripping.

It's been done very cleverly.
Read "Rosenkrantz & Guildenstern are Dead".
However, there is no reason why it cannot be done again.
Perhaps you will be even more clever. Good Luck.
