You know, like, how far can I go? Does it vary from car to car?

Yeah, I'm a moron.

It does vary from car to car. We used to have a car that the light would come on with 2 gallons left. Some come on at 1 gallon.

So, Between 1 and 2 is probably a safe bet. And it depends on your cars gas mileage as to how far you can go, but it wouldn't be too far. Maybe 15-20 miles, tops.

It greatly varys from car to car. I have a 10 gallon tank, and the light won't turn on until I've used 9.8 gallons. So, there is no general rule as to how this works, it's more just an estimate than anything else.

yeah its a call on each tank and make of vehicle its bad for the engine to risk running out but try this put a good size gas can in the trunk with a good seal and then when the light comes on mark down the mileage then as it runs out coast to the side of the road with the flashers on leap out when its safe and add the gas now mark down the mileage see the differance thats your safety zone its less on a hot day and more on a cold day as the gas expands and contract slightly along with the tank

it varies from car to car.... i would say anywhere from 10-20 miles left. my car has an automatic sensor, telling me how far i can go on my gas. when it first tells me gas is low "fuel is low" i can go about 45 miles. after the "low fuel" signal, there is about 18-22 miles left.

it varies from car to car, but it is generally around 1 gallon of gas remaining.

By a law enacted many years ago you are warned with 50 miles remamning regardless of make ,assuming normal driving speed. However in reality it varies quite a bit and all warning lights and guages arent equal.

It does vary from vehicle to vehicle (in my Xterra it's 3 gallons, in my Saturn it's one). More fuel efficient cars tend to have less gallons than larger cars/trucks/SUVs. What type of car is it?

It varies. You probably still can go a few miles or so, but it's better not to really take your chances unless absolutely necessary.
