Smokey and the Bandit is one of the best movies ever. It is a classic and will be a classic for a very long time.

"Smokey and the Bandit" can be prasied if only because Detroit never MADE so many Camaros and Trans Ams as they did after this movie was released.

It can also be cited as the main cause for a shortlived "CB Radio" craze of the mid 70s. I also remember my mother being completely shocked that Jackie Gleason could be such a guttermouth. When HBO was first available in our town, this (the "R" rated version) and "The Outlaw Josey Wales" was about all they ran.
As a matter of fact, I have tried for YEARS to get the "R" rated version. with the original salty language. All you can get is the "PG" version, where the worst parts are overdubbed by the guy who did the voice for Fred Flintstone. The original lines were howlingly funny (at least to a 16 year old), delivered as only "The Great Man" could deliver them. The overdubs are obvious and jarring.

If you have any info on the R rated version Id be much obliged if you passed that info on to me.
