Because we have a society based upon competition, not cooperation. Competition wants people who are alike to compete against other people who are alike. That makes people spend more money, and it makes big news if society can make big fights. If we were to somehow teach our children to embrace differences as the possible strengths that they are when people cooperate to achieve long term goals (like building a better community), then maybe intermarriage would be considered a good idea, and people wouldn't worry so much about their differences.

/the divorce rate for al marriages is over 50 percent so you can't really assume without any proof that "intermarriages" fail any oftener than any others.

I have seen some that have worked. Contrary to popular belief, people from two different type of households (i.e. black and white, asian and hispanic) are all taught a different way. Core values may very much be the same, but little differences do tend to stand out.

If you are coming from two different backgrounds it is just one more thing you have to work through. Marriages are hard enough without any additional stresses.
