It is sometimes virtually impossible to tell for sure if you are infected as some internet viruses hide their presence, do not create noticeable problems and work diligently in the background of your computer with out any knowledge to the owner.
Outward signs of virus infection though can come in any or some of these changes to your computer:
1- noticeable slowing of screen changes, mouse movement slow/jerky, sluggishness of opening and closing programs or documents, slowness of email coming in or going out, music/video playing jerkily or with hesitations.
2 - strange announcements displayed on your screen or desktop, strange warnings or errors being displayed, errors that occur while playing games, running programs or opening programs that you have not seen before.
3 - Internet connection seems to be pushing or receiving large amounts of data when you are not uploading or downloading any information
4 - computer operating system crashes for no reason, computer restarts contiuously, computer crashes and can not be restarted, computer hard drive acts like it is empty, files/programs are being reported as missing or corrupt.
These are just a few of the more obvious actions that can be caused by a computer virus. For more information view any of the main Anti-Virus software manufacturers.
To find out for sure, visit either of these two sites to obtain a FREE virus scan (will not get rid of the virus but will tell you if you are infected):
http://www.pandasoftware.com/Home/Particulares/? (look for ActiveScan icon)
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
If you find you are infected, do the following:
1st either purchase an anti-virus software package from a local computer store, main stream anti-virus software company or download one of several freeware antivirus software programs
2nd install the software AND MAKE SURE YOU UPDATE the virus definitions
3rd scan your COMPLETE computer (all drives) and allow the software to neutralize the virus(es) in the way it sees fit.

Usually a Decent Virus Protection program will tell you where it is and will delete it for you... if you don't have one of those you know you're infected with a Virus when such things as A load of porn shows up on your screen or you're really bad when your computer ceases to actually boot up.

Go to one of the links below, and do an online scan of your machine. That will tell you if you have a virus, and if you do, what to do about it. Good luck!
